Life off the grid – Baking bread on a woodstove

Pok our hungry rooster is waking me up with the rising of the sun. So I jump out of my bed to feed the chickens. A shiver runs over my back when my feets touch the almost frozen floor.

While my sweet husband is lighting a fire in the woodstove I preparing the dough for the bread.

Ingredients

I use:

  • 500 grams of flower
  • 7 grams of dry yeast
  • 6 grams of salt
  • 9 grams of sucre
  • 360 ml of lukewarm water

Recipe

After mixing the ingredients, I let the dough rise in the pan for about one hour. Reusable bakingpaper prevents sticking.

I leave the bread on the stove untill it start to give a lovely smell. After checking if the top is drie, it is time to turn the bread upside-down.

Depending on what kind of crust I prefere today, the bread stays about 30 minutes or a little longer on the stove.

Bon appetite

After 1 hour the temperature finally reaches 10°C in our house. Everytime i am amazed, that even with the cold the dough rises. With the rising prices of the bakingoil and gaz this way of baking bread is a great solution to safe money. And in our case the stove is burning hot anyway.

But enough typing, the bread is ready it smells great in here. I am going to enjoy my breakfast.
