Preparing for winter: fixing the fireplace.

I have done many things in my life, but cutting stones is not one of them.

These heat resistant stones are quite expensive, about six euros a peace. So you can imagine I did not want to break them. So I cut them first with a steel and then a wood saw. Really a stupid idea, now I have to buy new ones and didn’t even cut through.

I try to remember how my father in law does this cutting. I think he scratches a deep line around the break line and then tap it gently with a an hammer and a chisel. And to my surprise it works.

The first stones are in. The sun is setting and doing this job by candle light seems romantic, but isn’t fun at all. Time to feed the chickens, boil some drinking water before dark and to have a nice meal…with candle light 😉
